DONE DEAL: Providence Friars have reached an agreement to sign Devin Carter’s replacement.

Bensley Joseph, a transfer target from St. John’s, pledges to Providence

It will take longer for Rick Pitino and his team to find this cycle’s initial transfer commitment.

Bensley Joseph, a Miami guard and big St. John’s target, committed to Providence, a Big East foe, on Friday afternoon, On3’s Joe Tipton reports.

Joseph found St. John’s to be a highly practical place to land. On Sunday, March 24, the senior guard from Arlington, Massachusetts, paid a formal visit to the Queens campus.

As a 3-and-D guard, Joseph started 27 of the Hurricanes’ 32 games this season. In the 2023–24 season, he shot 40.8% from the field, 36.4% from three, and 78% from free throws, averaging 9.6 points, 3.4 assists, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.5 steals. The former four-star recruit will be eligible for one more season after this one.

This one-week recruiting dead period will conclude next Thursday, April 11, and there won’t be much movement in the recruiting front. Aaron Scott, a transfer from North Texas, met via video conference with Rick Pitino and his staff today. After the dead period concludes, Drexel forward Amari Williams has arranged an official visit with St. John’s, and the club is still in contact with Cliff Omoruyi, the center at Rutgers.
