He reveals the secret behind his extraordinary fitness record…

Since joining Manchester United, Bruno Fernandes has maintained an incredible level of fitness, which he has attributed to his family.
Since coming from Sporting Lisbon to Old Trafford in January 2020, the Portuguese player has participated in 223 matches across all competitions.
His lone absence was in March 2022 when he was unwell and missed United’s 3-2 victory over Tottenham. Thus far Fernandes has only missed three more games for club and nation since making his professional debut for Novara in the 2012–13 campaign.

He missed Portugal’s Euro 2020 qualifying matches against Ukraine and Serbia in March 2019 due to a dead leg. He also missed Sampdoria’s 2-1 loss to Naples in January 2017 due to the virus. Despite limping during extra time, Fernandes played the entire 120 minutes of United’s thrilling 4–3 victory over Liverpool on Sunday in the FA Cup quarterfinals.
When asked about his incredible endurance, Fernandes acknowledged that much of the credit should go to his family. He told reporters, “I just have to be grateful for my mother and father because they made me the right way, the strong way.”
They’ve been here for the past two games, and they always take care of me. They give me that extra energy.
“My spouse works so hard to provide me with the most rest possible at home. Having two young children at home who want to play makes things challenging.  “My youngest child always wants to play football, but she helps me out so I get the rest and naps I need.” This document includes my family as well.
Given that Fernandes was used as a makeshift center back with United behind 3-2 in extra time, his performance on Sunday was all the more remarkable.
The Portuguese positioned themselves next to Harry Maguire, frequently letting his partner advance to pose a threat from the air.
The 29-year-old also stated that he was content to give up his life for the benefit of others. “I take the necessary steps to win games,” he said.
“It doesn’t bother me.” Although man-marking the field wasn’t the original intention, I felt like I could occasionally get a start on their midfielders and occasionally drop a bit to assist Harry Maguire because of their clear superior speed up front.
“I don’t mind, but I can’t get my goals and assists when I’m far from the goal!” However, as I played center-half in my early career, they are unable to score, so I still gained something from it.
