New York Yankees has signed a one-year, $15 million contract with the Detroit Tigers.

In a significant offseason move, Gleyber Torres, the 28-year-old infielder who has been a cornerstone of the New York Yankees for seven seasons, has signed a one-year, $15 million contract with the Detroit Tigers. This transition marks the end of an era for Torres and the Yankees, as both parties embark on new paths in their baseball journeys.

A Promising Start with the Yankees

Torres’ journey with the Yankees began in 2016 when he was acquired from the Chicago Cubs as part of the Aroldis Chapman trade. Debuting in 2018, he quickly showcased his talent, earning two All-Star selections and hitting 62 home runs over his first two seasons. His 38 homers in 2019 solidified his reputation as a formidable hitter. However, subsequent seasons saw fluctuations in his performance, with defensive challenges and inconsistent offensive output. In 2024, Torres posted a .257 batting average with 15 home runs, contributing to the Yankees’ first World Series appearance since 2009, though they fell short to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
