With the announcement on Tuesday, Mayer became one of the select few Red Sox prospects to be chosen twice for the Futures Game, along with Rafael Devers and Xander Bogaerts. This became the 21-year-old Portland Sea Dogs player the first to be selected twice.
In the initial half of Double-A Portland’s season, the “Big Three” lived up to the anticipation. Mayer leads the Eastern League as of Tuesday in runs (54), doubles (25), extra-base hits (32), and batting average (.307). With a.850 OPS, he leads the team in both hits (82) and total bases (128).
With 36 walks and 25 extra-base hits, Anthony is sixth in the Eastern League. In 60 games, he has eight home runs and 24 RBIs.
Teel has 48 RBIs through 60 games, which leads Double-A Portland. His.854 OPS includes eight home runs. In the Eastern League, the 22-year-old leads in runs (51), average (.302), and RBIs (41).
In Texas, Michael Young will lead the National League Futures team, while Adrian Beltré, the Baseball Hall of Fame candidate, will oversee the AL Futures club. July 13 is the date of the game.
