Teresa Weatherspoon of Sky, HC, responded “proudly” to Angel Reese’s past in the Lynx defeat.

Chicago On Sunday afternoon, the Chicago Sky resumed their home stand against the Minnesota Lynx. Chicago got off to a fast start, but Minnesota rallied in the fourth quarter to win 70–62. Head coach Teresa Weatherspoon expressed her pride in Angel Reese despite the team’s defeat, following the rookie forward’s record achievement.

Reese set a new WNBA record for the most straight double-doubles in league history (10) in a single season with her 10-point, 16-rebound performance. Following the game, Weatherspoon discussed the achievement as follows:

“I’m just pleased of her accomplishments. She’ll probably say, “The win was more important,” you know. Still, she’s going to keep doing what she does. She is that way by nature. She will always show up, play with confidence, and give it her all for you. She is the one who is toughest on herself. So, pleased of what she’s doing and what she’s going to do, Weatherspoon said at the press conference held after the game on Sunday.

Angel Reese is becoming a double-double machine in the WNBA very rapidly. Chicago’s survival versus the other top teams depends on her inside presence. Angel Reese is starting to be recognized by teams as a finishing threat. Throughout the game, the rookie was frequently double-teamed by the Lynx, which led to her poor field goal percentage of only 25% on Sunday. Reese is aware that she and her team still have a lot of potential to grow.

To start the game, the Lynx scored seven points in a row against the Sky. Chicago, however, answered and defeated Minnesota 24–16. Because of their strong defense, the Sky limited the Lynx to just 11% of three-pointers made in the first quarter. Chicago, meanwhile, had made 50% of their long-range attempts.

Up to the conclusion of the second quarter, the pattern persisted. In the first half, Chicago made 42.0 percent of its three-pointers while Minnesota only managed 28.6 percent. Furthermore, by halftime, the Sky had limited star Lynx forward Napheesa Collier to just four points. Still, Collier and her group had not given up on their struggle.

Minnesota outscored the Sky 18–5 in the fourth quarter, matching their third-quarter scoring performance. Lindsay Allen and Chennedy Carter blamed poor ball movement for Chicago’s late-game skid. Teresa Weatherspoon reiterated her assertion.
