Proposed Blockbuster NBA Trade Has Heat Land $215 Million Star for Herro

How Jimmy Butler Became 'Himmy'

Jimmy Butler’s future is the main topic of discussion this summer as the Miami Heat prepare to make a number of roster decisions this offseason. Miami has the opportunity to consider moves while holding Butler.

The Heat would sign Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young, according to the most recent Bleacher Report suggestion. Following the NBA draft, the Hawks may be in the midst of a rebuild after trading for Dejounte Murray.

According to the trade proposal, Miami would transfer Young to Atlanta for Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, and Nikola Jovic. As part of the massive trade, the Heat are also handing the Hawks two future first-round picks (2029, 2031).

In the June 29, 2024, live broadcast, the Bleacher Report analyst discussed possible NBA trades that could occur prior to free agency. “You give up Tyler Herro, who I think goes in any star deal,” the analyst said. He is merely the component that needs to be shifted.

“You give up Duncan, who brings in the money, and you give the Hawks a shooter who they might be able to turn around again.” Jovic is a promising young player, and with Jimmy Butler’s future uncertain, there are two intriguing first-round picks.

With three seasons left on his four-year, $120 million contract, Herro may be keen to leave Miami. Herro’s 2024–2025 cap hit is a substantial $29 million.

The Hawks haven’t been able to get Young in a deal that has inspired the front staff to make a trade thus far. Herro gives Atlanta at least a legitimate scorer, but the guard has struggled with injuries lately. It’s conceivable that the Hawks would rather have these potential draft selections in 2029 than later.

Herro was limited to 42 games for Miami in the previous season. In these few games last season, the guard averaged 20.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game while shooting 39.6% from outside the arc.

So far, the front staff has not been motivated to make a trade by the Hawks’ inability to acquire Young in a trade. Although the guard has recently suffered with ailments, Herro at least provides Atlanta with a reliable scorer. The Hawks could prefer to have these possible draft picks in 2029 than in a later year.

Herro’s Miami playing career was limited to 42 games. The guard shot 39.6% from outside the arc and averaged 20.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game in these few games the previous season.

In the upcoming months, Atlanta may decide to start over and move more starters, such as Young and Clint Capela. In this case, Zaccharie Risacher would be the new No. 1 choice for Atlanta, and the team would rebuild around him.

Young’s contract is for $215 million over five years, with three seasons left. With a player option for his last season, the point guard could become a free agent in the NBA as early as 2026.

Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports stated that the Hawks were anticipated to “gauge trade possibilities” for Young and other players prior to the Murray deal.

The teams that Young would love to sign with are the Los Angeles Lakers, San Antonio Spurs, and New Orleans Pelicans, according to the NBA insider. Miami might also be a good fit to revive Young’s worth because of the team’s solid reputation in the Association.

As the wing market becomes more clear, Fischer wrote, “The Hawks are certainly expected to now gauge trade possibilities for Murray, All-Star guard Trae Young, Clint Capela, and the rest of their rostered players who aren’t named Jalen Johnson and Zaccharie Risacher, sources said.” Fischer published this information on June 28.

Along with the Spurs and Lakers, Yahoo Sports was informed by league insiders that Young is considering the Pelicans as one of his ideal next teams. However, Young’s suitability for a New Orleans squad that presently boasts C.J. McCollum in its backcourt has never been particularly clear.
