The Los Angeles Rams seem to be in excellent form heading into the 2024 season, despite losing future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald to retirement this summer. It cannot be said enough, but the Rams will never be able to replace the vacuum left by AD. In the interim, though, LA can always pull off a blockbuster trade.

Before the regular season began, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox suggested a few fictitious three-team transactions that may completely upend the NFL. Knox arranged a trade between the Rams, Steelers, and Broncos that sent wide receiver Tutu Atwell to  and All-Pro defensive tackle Cameron Heyward to Los Angeles.

Los Angeles has a young receiver who shows promise, but Pittsburgh does not have one to send back to Denver. The Steelers might trade outstanding defensive tackle Cameron Heyward to the Rams in order to make this three-team deal possible.

Heyward has traditionally been the Steelers’ defensive focal point. In 11 games last season, he recorded 33 tackles and two sacks. He is, nevertheless, looking for a new contract as he approaches the last year of his current one.

Even though the Rams only have $9.2 million in cap space, by offering Heyward a new, back-loaded contract, they may be able to put two and two together. He would assist Los Angeles in making a postseason comeback while mitigating the loss of Aaron Donald’s retirement.

Heyward’s addition to LA’s defensive line would definitely relieve some of the load on youngster Jared Verse and Kobie Turner. Heyward was selected a first-team All-Pro in 2017, 2019, and 2021. He has participated in 194 regular season games. In his 13-year career, the Ohio State graduate has even racked up 80.5 sacks, including three seasons with ten or more sacks. Following a groin injury sustained in Week 1 against the 49ers, he was placed on injured reserve last season.

Heyward is past thirty, but there’s cause to think he can turn things around in ’24 and remain a potent player. Heyward has emphasized the value of concluding his career with the only team he has ever played for, so it’s possible that he is not overly interested in leaving Pittsburgh.
