After the club was connected to one of his former players, new manager Steve Cooper might give Leicester City more clout.

Steve Cooper’s appointment as manager of Leicester City adds an intriguing element to the club’s possible transfer of Joe Rodon, which surfaced earlier this week.

The 26-year-old Rodon is presently registered with Tottenham Hotspur. Although their failure to earn promotion to the Premier League has apparently jeopardized the potential of a permanent move there, as the Foxes and the two other newly-promoted teams are now rumored to retain interest, he made an impression when on loan at Leeds United last season.

Furthermore, Cooper in the dugout was the ideal option for Leicester if they needed any additional leverage in this transfer battle with their rivals.

When both players were at Swansea City, the 44-year-old gave his fellow Welshman a breakthrough Championship campaign; it was this choice that finally attracted the attention of Spurs scouts.

Cooper talked very highly of his central defense during that time, and his previous remarks now provide a clearer picture of the player Leicester supporters may see wearing the blue strip in the not-too-distant future.

“Joe seems to be a key member of our team. Cooper told swanseacity.com, “He has had a very good start to the season, and the exciting thing with Joe is he is only going to get better. I really believe in his potential.”

His ability to play with the ball is evident as he is a right-footed center-back who is positioned on the left. With or without the ball, he is assuming a great deal of responsibility, and he will only get stronger in this setting.

He is a really good player in my opinion, and I am having fun working with him. He enjoys playing for the football team and supporting Swansea. He gives it his all every day and is proud to represent the club—those are his words, not mine.

Working with him and the boys every day is truly an honor because they genuinely want to help and support one another. Joe is a prime illustration of that. Good things will only come his way with the club and his country if he continues on his current path.”

The 26-year-old is demonstrating after a few years that his former coach was right when he ranked in the 95th percentile for passes attempted and passes completed during the previous season in the second division.

Given that Ange Postecoglou has reportedly declared Rodon to be surplus to needs in North London, Rodon will eventually have to make the decision about any competing approaches. Given this, one may wonder if his previous connections to Cooper or Leeds are stronger.
