Luke Young, the departing captain, has backed Wrexham to finish in the middle of the league, but he hasn’t ruled out a second promotion attempt.
After winning back-to-back promotions to reach League One in the 2024–2025 season, Wrexham will be pushing through the ranks with even higher goals in mind.

The Red Dragons face a significant hurdle in the third tier as they begin to compete on somewhat more level financial playing fields. Prestigious teams will be searching for their own striking additions, which have become a tradition at the Racecourse Ground.

This thrilling tale will enter a new chapter with the promotion to League One, but one player will not be involved: departing club captain Luke Young.

After his contract expired, the seasoned midfield player—who has been with Wrexham since 2018—moved on. Young has now projected the club’s final destination for the upcoming season.

Young supported the team to place in the middle of the table while speaking on the Rob Ryan Red podcast (quoted via The Wrexham Insider). He did not, however, rule out making another push for promotion with some further quality additions. He remarked

“Really speaking, do you think it can happen? With a few more signings, which I’m sure they’ll bring in due course, there’s no reason why it can’t.

“As a fan, I don’t believe it’s problematic if you finish midtable in League One after receiving two promotions, even if I was still there as a player.

“I believe that there will eventually be a slight decline after all of the excitement and highs associated with it. And I believe you should cut off your hand if that means staying steady in League One for the upcoming season.

A doable goal?
Wrexham appears to be doing well to strive for mid-table.

After two such successful seasons, it makes sense that they have high expectations, but participating on a weekly basis in a league with significantly higher competition will present difficulties. They’ll have to acclimate to the opponent’s standard once again because many of their star players from recent years are suddenly performing at a level they could have been playing at all along.

It will be interesting to observe how those players perform after spending time in League Two and the National League.

Given the Red Dragons’ rapid ascent, it makes sense that their sharp surge will eventually level out. That might occur when they ascend to League One, but who knows where they might end up with some even more outstanding business.

The next action that Young
As Wrexham advances to League One, it will be interesting to see Young’s future as the seasoned midfield player leaves the team after six years of service.

During the previous season, he made 33 appearances and contributed two goals and four assists from midfield.

He has spent the majority of his career in the National League, but his performance in League Two and level of experience may make him a valuable addition to another fourth-tier team.

Young will be a great addition wherever he ends up thanks to his leadership. Where exactly that is remains to be known, but wherever he ends up next, the former midfielder for Torquay United and Plymouth Argyle will be cheering on his old team from a distance.
