J.T. Realmuto, the star catcher for the Philadelphia Phillies, was placed on the 10-day Injured List on Tuesday. The team reports that Realmuto is undergoing a meniscectomy procedure because of “right knee pain.”
Realmuto first felt pain in his right knee around the beginning of May. The three-time All-Star chose to play through the discomfort despite having a tiny tear in his meniscus, as shown by the MRI. But over time, the problem got worse, so Realmuto and the Phillies decided to have surgery.
Realmuto performed well in 2024 despite having a sore knee that kept him out of three games last month. He batted before arriving in Illinois.261 with 20 RBIs and seven home runs
Realmuto’s injury occurs at a horrible moment for the Phillies, who are already without Trea Turner, an All-Star shortstop, and numerous other key players. But according to manager Rob Thomson, his group has enough depth to get through till Realmuto returns.
