Alonzo Mourning, a Miami Heat great, is encouraging men to get examined for prostate cancer after disclosing that he had surgery earlier this year to eliminate the condition.

NBA champion and Heat CEO Mourning, 54, said that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in late 2022 following a regular exam. His Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) levels increased, which may be a sign of prostate cancer. This led to an MRI and a biopsy, which were ordered by the doctors.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Mourning stated, “I got the news that, after my biopsy, that I had stage three prostate cancer.” “By the grace of God, I am cancer-free today, right now.”

The malignancy was successfully removed during Mourning’s March surgery. Now that he is cancer-free, he is utilizing his platform to spread the word about the value of early detection.

After being diagnosed with renal illness in 2000, Mourning had to cope with another major health issue 24 years earlier, which resulted in the suspension of his NBA career. In 2003, he had a successful kidney transplant.
