LSU's Angel Reese: I'll 'Be Able to Make Money' Regardless of WNBA Draft Decision | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors | Bleacher Report

Kim Mulkey, the head coach of LSU women’s basketball, was present on Thursday night as Angel Reese, her former standout forward, had a sort of homecoming to the Washington, D.C., region with the Chicago Sky, her new WNBA team.

Following the game, Mulkey and Reese—whose team was taking on the Washington Mystics—embraced and finally posed for a photo at Capitol One Arena.

Reese, a resident of Randallstown, Maryland, discussed what Mulkey said with her following the game at the press conference.

Reese told the media, “She just said she’s super proud of me.” She doesn’t often see me at WNBA games, so I guess I’m kind of unique to her.

“She will always be there for you. To me, she is like a mother. She continues to call to make sure I’m doing okay. contacts my grandmother and inquires about my family. It’s clear that many people are unaware of and fail to recognize this relationship. I adore Coach Mulkey, so.”

Mulkey also gave a hug to Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon, who was an assistant at Louisiana Tech in the middle of the 1980s and played for three seasons under the LSU coach.

Reese acknowledged that leaving LSU with one year of eligibility left to enter the WNBA draft was a “tough” decision, but that Mulkey and Weatherspoon’s friendship made the process easier.

“(Mulkey) trusted T-Spoon with me and knows it’s the same,” Reese replied. “She expects a lot out of me and continues to expect a lot out of me.”

Reese scored 16 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, dished out five assists, and made five of his 17 field goals in the Sky’s 79-71 triumph.
