Yankees' Austin Wells can't wait to build on 'outstanding' first impression - nj.com

One of the many talented catchers on the New York Yankees is Austin Wells, who made his major league debut this season. But Wells has struggled recently, batting just.196/.282/.294 with one home run in 102 at-bats. Wells displays strong anticipated statistics in spite of these lackluster results, indicating that he may be having some terrible luck.

While Wells’s defensive play has improved significantly, he still needs time and experience to find his offensive rhythm. In the meantime, the Yankees have another talented catcher in their minor league system who could be prepared to contend for a major league spot by 2025.

Rising Stars on the Yankees’ Catcher Roster: 22-year-old Augustin Ramirez is progressing quickly at Double-A Somerset. With 12 home runs and 35 RBIs in 44 games, he has a strong hitting line of.271/.376/.554 with a 17.8% strikeout rate, a 13.7% walk rate, and a 157 wRC+.

Mostly recognized for his defensive prowess, Ramirez possesses powerful arm strength and adept framing techniques, making him the perfect future catcher for the Yankees. Prospects like Ramirez, who are dominating in the minor leagues, pose a serious threat to Wells, despite his current position in the majors.

Ben Rice is another promising prospect who is putting up good numbers at Double-A. Over 47 games, he is hitting.260 with a.380 on-base percentage, 12 home runs, and 26 RBIs. Rice’s vast expertise behind the plate keeps him a valued asset even though there are rumors that he may eventually switch to first base.

Jose Trevino, who has been a surprise offensive producer this season and is well-known for his defensive abilities, is currently another asset that the Yankees have. Trevino is hitting.269 with an on-base percentage of.322, five home runs, eighteen RBIs, and a 112 wRC+ through 36 games. His offensive output has been at its best this season, though some regression is predicted.
