Good news: a transfer from BYU, has officially joined the Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team
Jaxson Robinson, a transfer from BYU, has officially joined the Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team, the university said on Friday.
Robinson has one season left of eligibility when he plays college basketball in 2024–2025 as a fifth-year senior. He is the lone player from BYU to follow head coach Mark Pope from Provo to Lexington, even though Collin Chandler, a former signee from BYU, has joined the Kentucky team.
Oklahoma native Robinson won the 2024 Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year award after averaging a career-high 14.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 26.5 minutes per game on 42.6% shooting from the field (35.4% on 3-pointers).
According to a press release from Pope, “Jaxson Robinson is barely scratching the surface of his potential and has been one of the most improved players in the country for two straight years.” “He is growing at an amazing rate. He can become a major playmaker and is an outstanding shooter who poses a growing threat both off the bounce and at the rim. Jaxson is a long, balanced guard who knows how crucial it is to have a solid rapport with his teammates.
“On a personal note, I’m thrilled to be joining him to wrap up his college career and try to win Kentucky’s ninth national championship.”
Robinson, who scored ten points or more in his final twelve games of the previous campaign, assisted in leading the Cougars to victories over San Diego State (12 points), Iowa State (15 points), Baylor (16 points), and Kansas (18 points) that put them in the top 25. When BYU lost to Duquesne in the NCAA Tournament, he scored 25 points on 8/15 shooting.
